About Bear Mountain
BEAR MOUNTAIN SKI HILL, 5 minutes from Dawson Creek, T-bar lift, Snow making abilities, Night Skiing, Great place to enjoy a few runs, some good food and for the moms and dads the lounge upstairs with a great view of the kids outside skiing. BEAR MOUNTAIN SKI HILL is governed by a Local Board of Directors that meet monthly. The Ski Hill has been in business since 1959. We are currently doing fundraising to install the new Dopplymeyr ski lift in 2012.

1959-60 Dawson Creek Ski and Recreation Assoc. is formed.
That year a rope tow is installed in an old hay field, that is believed to be opposite the current hill.
1960-61 the tow is moved to the current site
1961-62 the rope tow is doubled in length
Original chalet is built sometime in these first few years
1964-65 A new modern t-bar is installed. Modern ya right not even then. this lift was first designed in the 40’s
1970-71 Hill lighting is installed, bringing the exhilarating experience of night skiing to Dawson Creek.
1978-79 The entire ski hill chalet and its contents are destroyed in a fire.
Nov. 24 1979 Grand opening of new chalet. The DCAA assumed control of the property, investing $150,000 in Exchange. Who then leases it back to the DC Ski and rec. asoc.
Early 1980’s some new runs were cut and hill lighting improved.
1987-88 Snowmaking is installed, an ambitious $350,000 dollar project. In preparation for the 1988 BC Winter Games. But lack of snow and warm weather. No snow cat to groom the man made snow. the season a complete disaster, leaving the hill with a large debt.
1988-89 AGM is held under candle light, as the power had been shut off. With lots of donations and hard work a better snow year. The hill lowered the debt is resolved.
1989-90 A 1979 DMC snowcat with tiller attachment is purchased.
1994-95 Snowcat shop is built (Paul’s Shed)
1996-97 Purchased a second snow gun
1997-98 A 1988 Pisten Bully 200 is purchased.
2000-01 Hill lighting is improved
2003-04 A newer snow gun Lenko 940 is purchased. enable snow making at warmer temperatures
2004-05 Another Lenko snow gun is purchased
2006-07 A new Areco Supersnow is purchased
2010-12 Chalet renovated
2011-12 Doppelmayr lift purchased and installed (Used lift from Marmot in Jasper installed by Randy Gleige of Fernie BC)
2014 New BR350 Prinoth Groomer Purchased
2016 – 15 Windows replaced with upgraded argon filled units
Sidewalk replaced with a upgraded covered sidewalk. New Polaris 550 snow mobile purchased.
2017-Covered stairway to kitchen on front of chalet, paved front apron, replaced windows upstairs with argon filled sealed units. Major repair to retaining wall in crawlspace.
2018-Replaced the pipeline for snow making. Dumb waiter installed. New boiler for heating installed
2019-Purchased two new Snow Guns (Super Polecats ) 20 foot container installed with Timing Shack on top for the 2019 Winter Games U14 Races.
2022- Added a storage bay to the shop building, widened the garage door to the lower level of the Chalet, rewired the electrical supply to the snow making pump and the lift.
